A former R.E.A.L. Education learner, Alexander O’Riodan has undertaken volunteer work in Uganda with support from the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust.
Alexander was the first recipient of the “Terry Keeley Bursary” – a fund set up by the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust to help support learners in areas of need. He used the grant to help support his involvement with the International Citizen Service (an organisation that aims to help some of the poorest communities in the world and empower young people to make a positive impact in their community), which included a 3-month visit to Uganda.
Alexander undertook voluntary work in Uganda – living and working alongside local volunteers on a variety of projects.
Alexander said: “I really appreciate all the support from the R.E.A.L. Foundation Trust for my trip. It was tough at times, but I feel like it has really benefited me as a person, and I’m happy with the work I did within my business.
“My work involved being paired with a local cheese business and helping to advertise and produce accounting spreadsheets so that the business owner, a Ugandan lady, could take better control of her finances.
