A Parents View

We asked a parent whose son was supported by us on a full-time basis about her experience of working with us.

This is what she told us –

“My son found it very difficult to cope in school. He attended three primary schools and his behavior deteriorated in each. He found the noise, class sizes and lack of understanding and individual support intolerable. R.E.A.L. is very different. They provide very thoughtful, individual education based around the needs of the child and the needs of the wider family. This is successful because it is so individual and they work in partnership with the parents to facilitate this process.

In our case, my son was out of school and in a care home, because of complex behavioral difficulties and stress and anxiety relating to his experience of education. He was receiving between 4 and 6 hours of ‘education’ per week at the time he was referred to R.E.AL. That was a year ago. Since then, R.E.A.L. have worked in consultation with me and my son. They have provided full time education and after school care. This enabled my son to come home from care, me to go back to full time work and for life to become more manageable at home. His reading ability has improved significantly and this is directly related to the support provided by R.E.A.L. He has also begun to express his thoughts and feelings in a way that he was not able to do in the past. In other words, he has made progress that would not have been possible if he had not been referred to R.E.A.L.”
